After a career spanning over 30 years, Rhett Akins finally got the call. He was performing at the Grand Ole Opry over the weekend when Jon Pardi surprised everyone by coming out and taking the mic. After explaining to the crowd the connection he and Akins have, he revealed to Rhett the real reason for his visit. “You’ve always been family to me, but I’m here to invite you to be part of a different family. Rhett Akins I am here to invite you to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry.” Akins was emotional, especially when his family came out to hug him and share the moment. “Family” includes his son, superstar Thomas Rhett, who first performed on that stage in 2012 and is still awaiting his invitation. The invite was especially significant for his son, Thomas Rhett. He emphasized that his dad, a successful ’90s hitmaker and celebrated songwriter, was one of the most deserving people he knows for such a massive career milestone Thomas took to Instagram to express his joy, noting: “There may be people out there that know it and have studied it extensively, but for people I know directly in my life, my dad knows it and loves it more than anyone I’ve ever known.” In a very touching moment Thomas expressed his pride for his father’s accomplishment.
