If there’s somethin’ strange in your neighborhood this Halloween, don’t just call the Ghostbusters — call the Ghostmashers.
Mashup artist Bill McClintock has taken Ray Parker Jr.’s 1984 “Ghostbusters” theme and woven in 11 more ’80s staples, and somehow it all works. One minute you’re singing along with Ray, the next Eddie Money is “Shakin’,” ZZ Top is climbing out of a “Sleeping Bag,” and David Bowie is telling everybody “Let’s Dance.”
The range is ridiculous in the best way: Aretha Franklin, Oingo Boingo’s “Weird Science,” Yello’s “Oh Yeah,” and Danzig’s “Mother” all show up — and yes, Huey Lewis and the News’ “I Want a New Drug” is in there too, which might be the funniest choice of all, given that Lewis once sued Parker over the similarity between the two songs before the case was settled out of court.
Crank it up and see how many you can name before the track list spoils it for you.
