Wednesday marked 25 years since we discovered who lives in a pineapple under the sea! “SpongeBob SquarePants” debuted on Nickelodeon on May 1, 1999. The series officially launched on the network in July of 1999.
Before television, the character of SpongeBob was an educational comic book character named Bob the Sponge. The series is still going strong, having been renewed for its 15th season last fall.
