Netflix just dropped the trailer for “The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel,” which is scheduled to premiere on March 20, 2026.
There is a bit of a “he said, she said” situation happening with this release that makes it particularly interesting.
While the trailer looks like a standard band biography, the documentary is specifically a deep dive into the life and influence of original guitarist Hillel Slovak.
It covers the band’s “gritty” formative years in the late ’70s and early ’80s Los Angeles scene. The film explores the “found family” bond between Slovak, Flea, and Anthony Kiedis before Slovak’s tragic death in 1988.
Interestingly, the band (Anthony Kiedis, Flea, and John Frusciante) released a statement clarifying that this is not an official Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary.
