On December 13th, the world celebrates a centennial birthday for one of its most cherished and enduring entertainers: the one and only Dick Van Dyke. Reaching 100 years old is an extraordinary feat, and for a man who has brought so much light, laughter and pure joy to our lives, it feels like a truly shared celebration.
From classic TV to beloved movie musicals, Dick Van Dyke has not only entertained us but has modeled a life lived with optimism, humor, and a genuine love for his craft.
Just last December, as he neared his 99th birthday, we were all treated to a beautiful, heartwarming reminder of his boundless spirit. Dick Van Dyke appeared in an extended video for the Coldplay song, “All My Love,” alongside Chris Martin.
The video, filmed at Van Dyke’s Malibu home, was a pure delight. It featured the entertainment legend—barefoot and completely in his element—singing, dancing, and sharing charming, profound commentary. It wasn’t just a fun cameo; it was a deeply moving and authentic tribute to a living icon, a chance to celebrate the treasures he’s given to us all while he’s still with us. It was a beautiful collaboration that crossed generations and showed that joy, talent, and that signature Dick Van Dyke twinkle never age.
Happy Birthday, Dick!
Whether he was tripping over an ottoman as Rob Petrie, sweeping chimneys as Bert, or sharing his vibrant life story with Chris Martin, Dick Van Dyke has taught us that keeping a positive attitude and “Keep Moving“—the title of his book on aging—is the secret to a full life.
Thank you, Dick, for the laughter, the music, the dancing, and the optimistic spirit you’ve shared with the world.
