Darius Rucker is returning to his rock roots in a brand new supergroup called Howl Owl Howl. He’s not going it alone, either—he’s joined by R.E.M.’s Mike Mills and former Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman!
The trio is set to release their debut single, “My Cologne,” on October 31st. And if you want to catch them live, mark your calendars: their first tour date kicks off on November 3rd in Indianapolis.
For Rucker, this project is a joyous homecoming. “It feels great to be singing with a rock band again,” he shared. “It’s like buddies getting together, but also getting to play with your idols.”
Mike Mills echoed the sentiment, focusing on the genuine connection between the members. “We all like each other. And we all admire each other musically,” he explained. “All those things come together and if it weren’t fun, we wouldn’t be doing it.” That kind of chemistry is a sure sign of great music to come!
So, what can listeners expect from this powerhouse trio? Their music is being described as a compelling fusion of organic roots rock with an open-minded alternative flair. Imagine a fluid, rock-solid rhythm section underpinning Rucker’s distinct and iconic vocals—it’s a sound built to stand out!
Believe it or not, this all started with informal jam sessions back in 2021. The project remained a secret until Rucker finally revealed the news to Rolling Stone. While their debut single and tour are just around the corner, there’s even more to look forward to: the band has plans to release a full album in the future!
The upcoming tour promises a mix of original songs and covers, giving fans a taste of the past, present, and future of this exciting collaboration.
