Bob Dylan’s early years on the New York and Minnesota folk scenes will be chronicled on the upcoming 18th volume of the Bootleg Series, ‘Through The Open Window, 1956-1963,’ which includes 139 tracks starting from when Dylan was just 15 years old in 1956. The collection features 48 performances that have never been released, including an original tune titled “Liverpool Gal” that has never been heard by most fans.
Princeton historian Sean Wilentz contributed a 125-page essay to the collection, aiming to connect the past and present through Dylan’s artistic evolution.
The set includes recordings from Dylan’s native Minnesota before his move to New York City in 1961, studio sessions for albums like The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, and live performances at iconic venues like the Newport Folk Festival and Carnegie Hall. The 8-disc deluxe box set and a 2CD/4LP “Highlights” edition will be released on October 31, offering fans a comprehensive look at Dylan’s formative years and artistic development.
