There is finally momentum on a movie about Janis Joplin.
According to Variety, actress Shailene Woodley is set to star as the iconic singer in an upcoming biopic.
The outlet also shared that Woodley would serve as a producer for the film, which was $2.5 million in funding from the California Film Commission.
“California meant so much to Janis Joplin,” Woodley said in a statement, “from the stoops of San Francisco to the wooden walls of Sunset Sound, the state became the stage upon which she explored not just the world of music, but the world of her vibrant humanity.”
A title nor a release date has been confirmed. It has to be noted that there have been multiple Joplin movies scrapped over the past 20 years.
