Would you eat something that is so spicy it could kill you?? That is the latest craziness on TikTok. Denmark just banned TikTok’s favorite brand of ramen noodles and claimed they’re so spicy, they could be deadly.
It’s a Korean brand called Samyang. They banned three versions, including one called “Buldak Hot Chicken Ramen 3x Spicy” and another that’s “2x Spicy” according to a report from CNN.
Denmark’s Ministry of Food announced they pulled them for having too much capsaicin. It’s the stuff that gives peppers their heat. They claim the amount in a single pack is so high, there’s a risk you could develop “acute POISONING.” But only Denmark is banning them. You can still get them at grocery stores in the U.S. and elsewhere. Or on Amazon.
They’ve been around since 2012 and went viral a few years later thanks to the “Fire Noodles Challenge“. The caution that Denmark is using may be a legitimate concern that other countries may want to consider. Other spicy foods have been deadly but with some other factors considered. In September, a Massachusetts teen with a congenital heart defect who participated in a spicy tortilla chip challenge on social media died from eating a large quantity of chile pepper extract. An autopsy report obtained by The Associated Press showed that the 10th grader died on Sept. 1, 2023, after eating the Paqui chip as part of the manufacturer’s “One Chip Challenge.”
