The days of catfishing on Tinder may be coming to an end. The popular hookup app is looking to roll out an ID Verification feature very soon. The new feature will rely on government issued documents, like a passport or your driver’s license, for proof of identity.
According Tinder’s press release, “They first rolled out ID Verification in Japan in 2019 and has used what it has learned from that market to inform this decision.” When Tinder starts rolling out ID Verification participation in it will be voluntary, except where required by law. Tinder has also promised that the feature will evolve to ensure inclusive and privacy-friendly approach to ID Verification.
Other dating apps like Bumble and Zoosk require similar requirements, but rather than a government issued ID or Passport they merrily require photo identification.
Tinder continues to lead the way in safety and by adding ID Verification is hoping this will decrease the amount of scams and threatening encounters users have faced over the last year and a half.
